The Mid-Ohio Valley College Night at Marietta College is scheduled for 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, September 19th, at the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. This event is free and open to all high school students and families, and it gives them a chance to meet with representatives from colleges and universities from around Ohio and the region, as well as with military representatives.

The Marietta College Student Financial Services Department will be offering FAFSA help for all seniors at the men's basketball game versus Marietta High School on Tuesday, January 18, at Marietta High School. They will have iPads for students and parents to sign-up for their FSA ID and to fill out and submit their FAFSA. This is for ANY student that wants to further their education (not just those interested in Marietta College). Stop by their table for information and assistance and to submit your FAFSA!

Marietta College to host 2nd Annual Camp for Women

The Women's Inspirational Summer Experience will be July 7-10 at Marietta College. This is for rising junior and senior students who could benefit from this program. WISE is a four-day leadership development opportunity that gives young women firsthand experience of life as a student at a small, residential, liberal arts college. Participants will experience classes, community engagement, and college life in a fun, supportive environment. In 2019, there were more than 100 applications for the 24 available program spots, so please apply before the priority deadline of May 31st, 2020. Applications can be requested through completing the short online form at .

The Coalition for College

The Coalition for College is hosting a Virtual College Fair, featuring 44 Coalition for College member schools on Thursday, April 23. Recommended for students in grades 9-11, this online fair will include two panel discussions: “Tips on Creating Your College List” and “Behind the Scenes: How Admissions Decisions Are Made.” Then, students can join virtual rooms, where admissions officers will share information about their college and answer students' questions.

Ohio University Presents Summer Law and Trial Institute

Ohio University's Center for Law, Justice & Culture is hosting a FREE Summer Law and Trial Institute for high school juniors and seniors from July 19 – July 31, 2020. This immersive experience, now in its fifth year, exposes students to knowledge in law, criminal justice, and more. Additionally, participants will:

  • Visit the Supreme Court of Ohio and governmental offices
  • Interact with judges, attorneys, and advocacy organizations
  • Develop and present a trial in an actual courtroom
  • Experience campus life by staying in an OHIO residence hall

The priority deadline to apply to the Summer Law & Trial Institute is June 10, 2020, but students are accepted on a rolling basis, so earlier applications are encouraged. All applicants must provide:

  • a copy of their high school transcript
  • one letter of recommendation
  • an essay explaining their interest in the program
  • a complete application

Wings of Women Cleveland Conference Nov.9, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

The Wings of Women (WOW) conference is geared towards high school female students interested in pursuing STEM career fields. We bring in professional female mentors from various STEM fields, who spend the day speaking with the students about how they got to where they are today. There are also hands-on activities that go along with each of these fields to help spark further interest. This is a great opportunity for young ladies to be inspired and empowered to pursue whatever their hearts desire.Upon arrival, a light breakfast will be available and lunch will be provided later in the day. Upon departure, each student will receive a bag of information from various colleges and universities about their select STEM fields.

Applications are required for each student wishing to attend. The deadline for applications is November 1, 2019, along with a $5 reservation fee. This fee will be returned upon check-in on the morning of the event. A parent signature is required in order for each student to participate. Incomplete and late applications will not be

Washington State Community College is hosting a workshop on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. where Financial aid professionals will be available to assist you with filing your FAFSA. Junior PioPitch

The Junior PioBiz competition will take place in Cooper Auditorium (Thomas Hall –Room 124) on the campus of Marietta College on Thursday, April 19. Any high school student in the Mid- Ohio Valley may compete alone or as a member of a 2 person team. Both team members must be high school students. ď‚·Any ideas that could potentially lead to the creation of a for-profit business or a social enterprise qualify for participation. First Place: Three free Marietta College 3-credit hour courses valued at $4,275.00 plus $200.00 in cash. Second Place: Two free Marietta College 3-credit hour courses valued at $2,850.00 plus $150.00 in cash. Third Place: One free Marietta College 3-credit hour course valued at $1,425.00 plus $50.00 in cash.

Building Bridges to Careers invites students in7th-12th grades and their parents to the 6th Annual Family Career Awareness Day on Thursday, October 17, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Washington County Jr. Fair Building. The purpose of Family Career Awareness Day is to increase awareness and knowledge of potential career opportunities by showcasing local businesses to students and PARENTS. Our hope is to especially engage parents in the event, since we know from 10 years of student surveys that mom and dad have the most influence on a student's career decision, right behind personal experience. Students and parents can visit over 50 local employers together to learn what these careers entail. Free food and door prizes!!

Recovery is Beautiful High School Summer Camps & School Year Program

Attention current freshmen, sophomores and juniors interested in a future in mental health care: Washington County Behavioral Health Board and Building Bridges to Careers is looking for 2 students from each area school to participate in a Recovery is Beautiful High School Summer Camps & School Year Program. Two students and one staff member from each school district will attend the Ohio Teen Institute Conference from June 10th - 14th @ Heidelberg University, where they will become equipped with knowledge and skills to become positive leaders in their schools and develop programs to address mental health issues and substance misuse in their schools. The group will then organize a 3 day camp in Marietta at BB2C Epicenter, designed to expose students to local issues related to mental health and substance misuse; local providers currently addressing these concerns; and career pathways available in our community. Each school will present a project on the final day that they plan to implement in their schools in 2019-2020. Please let Mrs. Cunningham know by Thursday, April 18th if you are interested!

Marietta College is hosting Career Connect job fair from 8-4 on April 4 in the Marietta College Dyson-Baudo Recreation Center. There is no cost for employers or job seekers.

"Battle of the River" Friday, August 17th 1st football scrimmage for St. Marys Blue Devils will occur at Bill Hanlin Stadium. This game will bring two local teams together, the SMHS Leo Club is challenging the St. Marys and Frontier communities to unite for a common goal. During the game please bring in canned goods and other nonperishable items that will be donated to local food pantry in Pleasants and Washington County. The high school that brings in the most goods during the game will get bragging rights for the whole year This event is sponsored by the St. Marys High School Leo club, which is a community service club that works to help and address needs in local communities such as Washington and Pleasants County. So join the mission of the SMHS Leo Club, be the change you want to see in the world and bring in you can goods and nonperishable items to the August 18th football scrimmage between St. Marys High School Blue Devils and Frontier High School Cougars.

The Marietta Noon Rotary Club is sponsoring a free workshop entitled Paying for College & Using Financial Aid. This workshop is intended for families of high school students who are planning on some form of education after high school. This event is free and reservations are not required. The workshop will be held at 6:30pm on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the Microtel Inn & Suites in Marietta, Ohio. The inn is located on Pike Street in Marietta next to The Bob Evans Restaurant, and is very close to exit #1 off of I-77. The facilitator is Rotarian Dan Jones who has been presenting this valuable information for over 25 years and has helped many families prepare for the overwhelming task of paying for college and other types of post-secondary education. His presentation will take a little over one and a half hours in a workshop setting. Questions and note taking are encouraged.

Marietta College Junior PioPitch

In an effort to encourage and inspire the entrepreneurial mindset from a young age, this special session of PioPitch offers middle- and high-school students the opportunity to present ideas and receive real-time feedback. PioPitch runs from 4:00-5:00 p.m., Thursday, April 19th, in the Timothy O. Cooper Auditorium in Thomas Hall. Must register before April 5, 2018.

  • Any high school student in the Mid- Ohio Valley may compete alone or as a member of a 2 person team. Both team members must be high school students.

Reynolds Young Writers Workshop

The Reynolds Young Writers Workshop at Denison University is open to qualified students who have completed their sophomore or junior year in high school by June of the program year. We do not admit current ninth graders/rising sophomores. WORKSHOP DATES: JUNE 17-24; APPLICATION DEADLINE: SUNDAY MARCH 4 AT 11:59PM

The program fee for the workshop, including tuition, housing, and meals for the 8-day program, is $1,300. (On-campus residency is required.) Generous financial assistance, made possible through the Reynolds Endowment, is available based on need. A simple financial aid request form is included in the online application. Applicants are asked to complete a short online application, submit a creative writing sample (up to 10 pages of fiction, poetry, or nonfiction), and arrange for a teacher or guidance counselor complete an online recommendation form. There is a $25 application fee. Full details are provided in the online application form. All applications are reviewed after the March deadline; acceptance notifications are sent out in early April.

Operation: Street Smart Coming to Belpre

Operation Street Smart is designed to educate parents, teachers, social workers, community partners – anyone who has a connection with children – about current drug trends, terminology, and paraphernalia. The goal is to arm parents and teachers with the information necessary to recognize the influences of the drug culture on their children, familiarize them with the many different drugs to which our children may be exposed, and share the experience and knowledge of undercover narcotics officers so they are better prepared to help children make the right choices.

The agenda will include information about Alcohol, Marijuana, Synthetic Marijuana (K-2, Spice), Salvia, Divinorum, Kratom, DXM, Prescription and Over the Counter Medication (including liquid cough suppressants), Heroin, Methamphetamines, Cocaine and Crack Cocaine, XTC, Mushrooms, Khat, Bath Salts, Huffing, PCP, and LSD. No children, please. There will be no childcare and the content is not meant for children. WSCC is hosting a free ACT workshop, open to anyone taking the ACT. Receive hands-on instruction for test taking, and section-specific workshops!
